Retrofitting & Upgrading older dimming and Lighting control systems |
|
|
Convert old Dimming systems into new ones for a small fraction of the replacement price. All dimming systems consist mainly of 2 sections. The LOGIC section that includes the wall controls, signal processing electronics , firing cards, etc... and the POWER section that includes Triacs or SCRs, Chokes , heat sinks, Breakers, connectors, etc... ( dimming modules) The most expensive of the two is the POWER section. Luckily, in most cases, it is not the source of the problems. Even new dimmers POWER sections are built based on the same technology developed in the early seventies therefore it will be wasteful to change the Power section.
What needs upgrading in most existing dimming systems is the LOGIC section. The PROTOCOL allows to inexpensively Retrofit existing dimming systems from any manufacturer by interfacing the PROTOCOL logic modules MD400 and control stations PSCxx to the existing dimmer modules. The installation does not require any costly work on the Line Voltage side and could utilize existing control wiring. Although it will provide a virtually new, feature rich dimming system, this type of UPGRADE/ RETROFIT costs a very small fraction of the replacement of the whole system.
Old problematic controllers are replaced by the new PROTOCOL front end components PSCxx , adding a myriad of features, flexibility and reliability to what may otherwise be good dimmers.
The result is a digital dimmers that
interface easily with Audio Visual and other control equipments, with features
like 254 scenes and multi way controls along with the capability of
combining controls for Multi Room applications via the
PTAxx patch panels room combiners. (Also available for DMX512 ) list price $197 |

Retrofitting LITECOMP Systems From Vantage Controls Vantage Controls introduced itself into the dimming controls market by launching its first system, the LiteComp 1000/2000/3000 dimming controllers. Digital Lighting Systems was the original equipment manufacturer and designer of the LiteComp CPU's for VANTAGE controls from 1987 till 1990. Hundreds of LiteComp systems have been installed and are still in operation today. Digital Lighting Systems has received numerous calls from LiteComp system owners seeking service and maintenance for these systems. In most instances, we were able to help repair the LiteComp systems. However, because that particular technology dates from 1986, certain components and parts are no longer available. To remedy the situation and give existing LiteComp owners a relatively inexpensive upgrade / retrofit solution, we created a retrofit kit out of our PROTOCOL components that installs inside the old CPU enclosure. The new retrofit system uses the existing Vantage Controls dimmer enclosures and modules as well as all of the existing low voltage cabling. The Protocol wall stations plug into the existing cables which terminate into the old LiteComp CPU enclosure. Since the major cost of a
dimming system is confined to the dimmer enclosures and modules, this
retrofit kit provides a fast and inexpensive way for upgrading to a much
more advanced technology without any rewiring on the high or low voltage
sides. There is no need to throw away perfectly good dimmer enclosures,
especially since the high voltage end of the technology has remained
basically the same. |
